Five things to know
  1. 01Free and private

This tool is free. It runs entirely in your browser. We don't save, send or see anything you enter: no server, no cookies, no tracking.

  2. 02Kept until you clear it

Your entries stay on this page until you click Clear all.

  3. 03Download before you leave

If you refresh or close this page, your entries will be lost. Download your report before you leave.

  4. 04PDF, HTML or CSV

Download your statement as a PDF or HTML report, or export the numbers as a CSV to work with in Excel.

  5. 05Built on the GHG Protocol

We've aimed to follow the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 2 Guidance throughout. Your statement is a self-assessment and isn't verified.

01

A few questions first

Your answers decide which parts of the calculator you see and what goes into your statement.

Which consolidation approach do you use?
This sets your organisational boundary: which sites, vehicles and equipment count as yours.
Within that boundary, which direct emission sources do you have?
Tick everything that applies. These are your Scope 1 sources.
What energy do you buy?
How do you want to report Scope 2?
What's the difference between location-based and market-based?

Location-based answers "what did the grid I'm connected to emit?" It multiplies your kWh by the average emission factor for your country, state or grid region, whatever contract you have.

Market-based answers "what did the electricity I chose to buy emit?" It uses the emission factor in your contract: a supplier-specific factor, a renewable tariff, or certificates such as Guarantees of Origin, REGOs, RECs or I-RECs. Electricity not covered by a contract uses the residual mix, which is the grid with everyone else's renewable claims taken out.

About your organisation

03

Scope 1: direct emissions

Use invoices, meter readings or fuel card data for the reporting period.

Fuel burned on site

Company vehicles & mobile equipment

Refrigerants

Enter the refrigerant you topped up or recharged during the period. That approximates what leaked. GWPs are IPCC AR5 100-year values. R-22 and other Montreal Protocol gases are reported separately, outside the scopes, as the GHG Protocol requires.

Welding & cutting gases

CO₂ in shielding gas is released when you weld, so it counts in full. For argon/CO₂ mixes, enter the CO₂ share by volume from the cylinder label (for example 18% for an 82/18 mix). Acetylene and propane count as the CO₂ they form when burned. Argon, helium, oxygen and nitrogen are not greenhouse gases. Gas volumes assume 1.84 kg of CO₂ per m³ at 20 °C; edit the factor if your supplier states otherwise.

04

Scope 2: purchased energy

Electricity

Purchased heat, steam & cooling

05

Your own entries

Add any Scope 1 or Scope 2 source the calculator doesn't cover, with your own unit and emission factor. Each entry is added to the Scope 1 or Scope 2 total you choose, and its factor and source are listed in your statement.

Own Scope 1 & 2 entries

Enter the factor in kg CO₂e per unit (for example kg CO₂e per kg, per m³ or per km). Cite where it comes from, such as a supplier disclosure, an EPD or a published database, so a reviewer can trace it. Own entries count in both the location-based and market-based totals.

06

Exclusions and notes

The GHG Protocol asks you to disclose any sources, sites or activities you have left out, and why. These notes appear in your statement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions?

Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources an organisation owns or controls, such as fuel burned in boilers and vehicles, refrigerant leaks and process emissions. Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat, steam and cooling.

Which emission factors does the calculator use?

UK DESNZ conversion factors, EEA and AIB factors for Europe, US EPA eGRID, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Australia's National Greenhouse Accounts Factors and India's CEA CO2 Baseline Database. Where a year is not yet published, the nearest published year is used and flagged.

Does it calculate location-based and market-based Scope 2?

Yes. Both methods are reported, as required by the GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance. Market-based results use supplier-specific factors or contractual instruments where entered, otherwise the residual mix.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server.

Is the result verified?

No. The statement is self-calculated and not independently verified. ecorune offers an audit-ready Scope 1 and 2 report for a fixed fee of €250.
